Heavy rains fell throughout the area beginning Thursday, September 9, resulting in devastating flooding throughout Hancock County and the Ohio Valley. Aside from the Ohio River flooding downtown New Cumberland, one of the most impacted areas was the Kings Creek Road section of Weirton. All Hancock County fire departments were either assisting in rescuing stranded residents or in stand-by mode ready to respond at a moment's notice. Despite numerous rescue attempts, so folks chose to stand their ground during the high waters, as described in the articles below.
